Missed Dr. Who and Top Gear so went to catch up with i-player but i-player wouldn't start on the laptop.
Looking at Task-Manager "BBC iPlayer Desktop.exe" would appear in the list but the interface wouldn't open.
I went through the usual, uninstall/reinstall with iPlayer and then Adobe Air and it still failed to load.
Turns out the solution was to completely uninstall iPlayer then navigate to %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming and delete the folder BBCiPlayerDesktop.* in this folder.
Next navigate to %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Air\Els and delete the BBCiPlayerDesktop folder.
Now re-install iPlayer and with any luck it will work again (it did for me)
P.S. you don't have to, but if you found the above tip useful then consider liking my brother's facebook page www.facebook.com/seaharris

Worked for me first time. Thank you. It was getting so frustrating - thought it was because my laptop was so old :-)

Haven't updated my blog in a while but I'm glad many of you find this iPlayer fix helpful :-) (tho doesn't work for all)
That was driving me mad and now it's fixed! Thanks so much, Steve in China.
Worked!!!!! Thanks so much
Bless you, sir! I spent hours and hours trying to fix it. It was driving me barking mad. You had me back up in about 45 seconds.
Cheers, mate!
Thank you work a treat :)
Thanks for solving a LONG standing problem I've had.
Now can you get the iPlayer app to install on an iPod 3rd gen. which has latest iOS 4.2.1 which iPlayer says it needs a later version to install itself? Thanks again for the fix. This is a solution being searched for all over the place.
How do I navigate %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming?
Press the Windows Flag key and "R" together to bring up the Run window/box and copy %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming and click "OK"... This should take you straight to that folder.
Thank you very much. This worked for me :D
BINGO. Thank you.
Fantastic, worked a treat. For those struggling to find the AppData folder, try turning "show hidden files/folders" on under the folder option/view tab.
Brilliant! Thanks!
If the above didn't work for you, do these (they worked for me wonderfully):
1. Go to task manager by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Delete.
2. Click on Start Task Manager
3. Click on Processes
4. You should see BBC Iplayer. Click on it and then click End process at the bottom.
5. Now go back to your desktop and click on the Iplayer icon (Violla!!!).
6. Go to BBC iplayer website and download the program you want.
Thankyou thankyou thankyou!!
Mine stopped working last week for no reason at all and i've spent every waking minute since trying to uninstall and restall to no avail. This worked first time :)
Thanks again.
Thank you! First iPlayer desktop wouldn't download anything, then it stopped loading at all (despite appearing in the process list). This worked perfectly.
Worked perfectly. Many thanks, you have restored my sanity!
